On 12/24/2000, in Irving, Texas, Murphy and six codefendants fatally shot a 31-year-old white male police officer while on escape from the TDCJ Connally Unit.

Patrick Murphy Jr. will be executed on March 28th 2019 at 6 p.m. Central Daylight Time behind the walls of Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville Texas.

Patrick was physically abused by his drug-addicted mother starting at the age of 4. He had no stable male role model in his life and for a large part of early life lacked basic hygiene and manners.

He left high school after the 9th grade, prior to his arrest he served in the military and worked as a carpenter, laborer and maintenance worker.

he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault with a deadly weapon. He entered the house of a 23-year-old Dallas Texas native that he knew since high school. Put a knife to her throat covered her head with a pillowcase, cut off her nightgown and rape her. He received 50 years.

In 2000 he was in a maximum security prison your Kennedy Texas. He and 6 other inmates dubbed the “Texas 7” who were all serving 30 years or more escaped on December 13th 2000 around 11:20 a.m.

The overpowered and restrained 9 civilian maintenance supervisors,  4 correctional officers, and 3 uninvolved inmates. They took off in a white prison truck eventually dumping it in a Walmart parking lot.

On December 14th they robbed a radio shack. on December 24th in San Antonio Texas they held up Oshman’s Sporting  Goods Store after casing it for 5 days, they stole 44 guns and over $70,000 in cash Murphy was the lookout and getaway driver. He heard over the police scanner that they were on their way. He informed the other men as a police car drove around the back of the building. Murphy was told to leave by the other men and meet up with his cohorts at the rendezvous spot. When the other men arrived they told Murphy that they had shot a police officer.

Officer Aubrey Hawkins took 11 shots from 5 different guns; his body was dragged out of his cruiser and run over by the group as they fled the scene.

The story of the robbery was showcased on America’s Most Wanted on January 20th 2001. two days later 6 of the 7 were captured. Larry Harper killed himself before he could be arrested.

All 6 were charged, convicted and sentenced to death for the murders of Officer Hawkins. they were convicted under the law of parties.
