Tiffany Ann Cole is the only white female on death row in Florida.

Cole was a neighbor of Carol and Reggie Sumner that that lived in South Carolina.

In March of 2005, the couple was planning to move to Florida and sold Cole their car. Cole and her boyfriend went to Florida late June of 2005 to complete the paperwork for the vehicle.

While visiting, Mr. and Mrs. Sumner informed Cole that they had just made $99,000 in the sale of their home in South Carolina.

Cole, with her boyfriend Michael Jackson, met up with Jackson’s friends Alan Wade and Bruce Kent Nixon Jr. Nixon stole for shovels from nearby homes, while Cole went and rented a Mazda RX-8.

2 days prior to the murder the group selected a remote location in Georgia and dug a large hole approximately 4 ft. deep and 6 ft. Square. The three men dug the hole while Cole held the flashlight.

The group decided they were going to break into the house when the Sumners went out, and upon their return, they were going to inject the couple with a lethal dose of medication.

On July 8th, 2005 they purchased duct tape and plastic wrap and went to the home. Cole and Jackson waited outside because they knew they would be recognized by the couple. Wade and Nixon went to the door and rang the doorbell. When the door was answered they pushed their way past the couple.

Once they got inside, Wade ripped the phone cord out of the wall and Nixon used a toy gun to get the couple to comply. They bound them with duct tape and forced the couple to give the intruders the ATM card.

The couple was taken to the garage and forced into the trunk of their own car. Wade and Nixon drove that car to the spot where they had dug the hole. Cole and Jackson went back in the house and grabbed some of the couple’s belongings and put them in the Mazda. They drove out to the state line in Georgia to meet up with the others. Cole and Nixon stayed at the end of the road.

Jackson and Wade after gaining a PIN number from the couple buried the couple alive.

The 4 of them drove both cars away from the grave sites; eventually dumping Sumner’s Lincoln and headed to the bank ATM in the Mazda where they withdrew the funds from the victim’s bank account.

Sumner’s daughter, who was unable to reach the couple called the police a few days later. On July 12th, 2005 detectives learned of unusually large withdrawals from the Sumner’s bank account.

Meanwhile, the detectives learned that someone claiming to be Mr. Sumner had called the police station. When the detectives called the number back, Jackson and Cole pretending to be the murder victims tried to convince the police that they were still alive.

Detectives being suspicious ran the data on the cell phone towers and found a connection to the rented Mazda and using the GPS on the car located the hotel where they were staying at.

In the hotel were Cole, Jackson, and Wade. The detectives also found the victim’s driver’s license, credit cards, cheque book, a new laptop and other items they have purchased.

Nixon plead guilty to the reduced charge of second-degree murder as he turned on the others and he received a sentence of 55 years. The others went to trial.

Jackson and Wade were tried separately and each were convicted on 2 counts of first-degree murder and received two death sentences. Cole was convicted of 2 counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbed, which brought with it two death sentences, one for each murder.
